Some Reuther Good News
In an effort to focus on the positive I am attaching the link to John Krasinski’s “Some Good News”. I find his ability to pull the positive out of a difficult situation refreshing.
This inspired me - During our period of "school at home" I started looking for some uplifting, positive, Reuther news that I could collect and possibly share. I contacted the staff to see what they could contribute. As of 12/17/20 I have gathered about 27 cool pieces of news. I have also asked students to share their good news in hopes of building some positive momentum. If you have some good news to share please send it directly to me - Mrs. Suhajda. We will post some of the news right here to share with our community.

The "Spread The Joy" Project
The RMS/RHS/VC choir students have missed performing this semester. During first quarter they were learning music as they would in a normal-school-year- setting with multiple voice parts. When it came to second quarter- Mrs. Lykins asked the students what type of music would bring them joy to sing during the holidays. From that sentence the RHS students came up with this idea: the Spread the Joy Project! An offering of holiday carols to share with the community and spread joy this holiday season!
So many of the ideas in this six song concert came directly from students- including posters that say the word “sing” in multiple languages and the entire “Home for the Holidays Parody”. Also- while not every choir student participated, almost all of them did. Keep in mind that each one of these students took time on their own to record their voice individually and sent it in to be a part of the whole project. It’s truly special. THANK YOU to the choir student teacher, Stephanie Dean, for her creativity, flexibility and great teaching this semester- as well as Mrs. Lykin's accompanist, Brian Leduc, for making the tracks for these students to sing with and for assisting with the creation of this video. Enjoy- and Happy Holidays! |
COCOA & Concert from the Comfort of your CouchThe Reuther Band and Orchestra classes had a live stream performance at 7:00pm on 12/17/20 to celebrate their accomplishments and the holiday season!
It is about 40 minutes long. The 8th graders informally named it "Cocoa and Concert from the Comfort of your Couch". This year it was "bring your own cocoa". Great job done by all!! |

Theresa Washington earns her Masters in Elementary Ed.
“Some Reuther Good News” is most proud and excited to announce that our very own Theresa Washington graduated with a Masters in Elementary Ed. this year! Of course like many, she did not get to have an official graduation ceremony. Her family did a mock graduation ceremony for her at the downtown Rochester Municipal Park. They submitted the video to the university and currently, the University of Phoenix is using a clip of her video in their current commercial. :)
Here's the link to the commercial - https://youtu.be/H1zR9_Frnug
You will see Theresa and her husband at the beginning and near the end. Video credits go to her older son Brandon.

Mrs. Prashar sends Thank You Cards
to Essential Workers
In April, Mrs. Prashar and her daughter made 175 cards and sent them out to the Rochester Police Department, The Rochester Meier Store, Troy Beaumont Hospital (service department) and The Shelby-Township Police Station. The joy for her was truly hearing how touched the people who she spoke to were in knowing that their community members care and recognize them for their valiant efforts. The cards have been displayed in the staff break rooms and on bulletin boards in hallways for workers to see all the time.
Kindness Club Shirts Delivered
The Reuther Kindness Club worked hard this school year to promote and spread KINDNESS throughout the school. The club was supposed to be getting some t-shirts before the end of the school year but…
The shirts were donated by the Rochester Community Foundation & the Julia Suhajda Memorial Fund - #bekindlikegia. During the stay at home period Mrs. Knox and Mrs. Suhajda were able to arrange for delivery/pick-up of the shirts so that the club members could enjoy a new shirt while continuing to spread the message of kindness. Thank you to the all of the students involved in this important work. |
