What authorities say
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that screen time for kids should be limited to one or two hours a day. Screen time is defined as television, movies, computers, games, and web-browsing. Children who watch more than two hours of TV a day are more likely to be overweight and often suffer from irregular sleep patterns. So let’s give our children the best chance for health.
Not a Punishment, Not a Reward
Screen time can be an enjoyable experience, but it shouldn’t be played up as more than that. By using screen time as a reward for good behavior or a punishment for bad behavior, we make it seem more important. Make screen time a “non-event” in your home. Instead, use recognition and encouragement for physical activity and healthy eating with your kids.
